Why People Use Steroids

There are two main groups of people who use steroids illegally. The first group is made up of mainly high-school to college males who want a certain image. The second, and most common group is athletes trying to get an edge on their opponents. Steroids are most common in males, but females also use steroids. This is because they feel pressure from the world around them to be a certain way. [3]

Females and males often use steroids to get the body they feel they need to have. Society and other pressure makes teenagers feel they have to look a certain way. They are “supposed” to be thin but muscular. Steroids give males and females the body style they think they need to have. [4]

Athletes of all ages and levels use steroids to enhance their game, and are more common than non-athletic users. So many athletes feel pressure to succeed, and turn to anabolic steroids to enhance their performance. [5]Many athletes think steroids are the best option to improve their game because they will make them bigger, faster, and stronger. Though this is true, steroids are banned in sports, and have more negative effects than positive.
